Welcome to Walker-Grant Middle School!

Walker-Grant Middle School is proud to serve the students and families of Fredericksburg City Public Schools with a rich legacy rooted in community, resilience, and academic excellence.

Our History

The school was named in honor of Joseph Walker and Jason Grant, two longtime educators who played a foundational role in expanding access to education for all students in Fredericksburg. Their legacy lives on in our educators' continued commitment to academic excellence, student support, and community partnership. Walker-Grant Middle School continues to honor its powerful namesake while embracing the future. We foster a culture of high expectations, belonging, and respect—empowering students to explore their interests, expand their potential, and prepare for the challenges of high school and beyond.

A New Chapter in Idlewild

In August 2025, Walker-Grant Middle School will embark on an exciting new chapter with the opening of our brand-new campus in the Idlewild neighborhood. Purpose-built to support 21st-century learning, the new building boasts flexible learning spaces, modern classrooms, state-of-the-art educational technology, and expanded room for athletics and the arts. Every aspect of the new school was designed with student growth, safety, and success in mind.

This expansion will not only accommodate the growing needs of our division but also reinforce our commitment to providing all students with access to high-quality learning environments.

Our Educational Philosophy

Our mission at Walker-Grant Middle School is to ensure all students Excel in Excellence by providing an equitable education through recognizing students' strengths, celebrating diversity, and preparing students with the skills needed for success beyond Fredericksburg City Public Schools.

We are committed to fostering a learning environment grounded in the core values of Accountability, Perseverance, Empathy, and Respect. These principles guide our efforts to prepare students for a bright future while promoting a culture of inclusion and academic achievement.
